DUTY MANAGER (new position advertised as of 6/1/22)

Creation Climbing Centre & Skatepark are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our ever-growing team as a Duty Manager.

You will be responsible for the day to day running of the centre, overseeing staff deployment, training and implementation of new ideas and projects that help drive the business forward. You should be able to think on your feet and use your natural ability to deal with challenging situations.

Our Centre is a huge 40000sqft facility which houses an Indoor Climbing Centre with over 100 lines of lead and top rope climbing, Bouldering area and Caving system, and our Skatepark is a 20000sqft extreme sports arena that hosts skateboard, BMX, Scooter and Inline blading. That’s TWO Olympic sports in one building!

We have over 130k members and a fantastic team of 20 people that provide a fantastic service to our customers 363 days a year, and we now need to recruit a new Duty Manager that will be able to work with our existing team and drive us forward in 2022.

This role reports directly to the Centre Manager.

So, what are we looking for?

The responsibilities of the role include:

  • Managing the day to day running of the centre and support the other members of the management team.
  • Open and/or close the facility ensuring we are ready for business or securely locked up.
  • Be responsible for the centre staff and customers, ensuring that our Health & Safety policy is upheld.
  • Instruct individuals/group sessions following our centre policies
  • Route setting (if your time allows)
  • Develop and deploy our kids youth programme, helping establish the next generation of climbers.
  • Be able to problem solve and think on your feet.

The Essential skills we are looking for:

  • Previous experience working in an indoor climbing facility
  • Hold at least a minimum of a CWI qualification
  • Have excellent verbal and written skills
  • Be a problem solver
  • Be passionate about climbing or skateboarding
  • Have previous teaching experience with individuals and groups across a broad range of ages
  • Be able to work as a team player

…and if you have the following skills, even better!

  • Experience in delivering staff training
  • Experience of route setting
  • Experience of performing PPE Inspections
  • Working with NICAS
  • CWDI Qualification
  • Foundation Coach Qualification

The job is 40 hours per week, on a fixed rota of open/close/weekends and is based at our Moseley site in Birmingham. Offsite work including abseil events is also a possibility, nationwide.

About the Job Role
You will be delivering climbing sessions to a variety of user-groups including schools and youth groups, coaching a junior climbing club, teaching adult Intro do Climbing Courses, private coaching, caving sessions and route setting. You will also be responsible for other essential team responsibilities such as climbing wall safety checks, wall cleaning, reception cover and more.

You must be flexible with your availability, including evenings and weekends.

Required Experience
Ideally you should hold a minimum qualification of CWI (previously CWA), however RCI (previously SPA) and/or CWDI (previously CWLA) are preferred.
