about us

Creation was built by climbers for climbers.

The company was founded in April 2004 when we thought that an alternative to the existing facility in the city was needed and the two directors of Creation went in search of an appropriate building and sufficient funding to get a new wall off the ground.

After several false starts, in October 2004 The Rockface Climbing Centre closed as part of a re-development strategy for the Eastside of Birmingham. We were approached by EPIC Skate Park, which was Europe's biggest indoor park to see if we would be interested in housing our development in their building.

It seemed an ideal partnership and plans were put in to motion to design and build the new wall.

We secured the services of SGB Scaffolding who professionally built the main structures to comply with BS12572 and we kept the local timber merchants very happy with copious orders.

With the help of many climbers and sub-contractors we clad, painted and set the walls ready for the June 4th opening.

I think it's fair to say that the centre still looked rough round the edges, but as a work in progress it was set to stay this
way for some time.

Now in 2009 and the centre is looking fantastic, the rubber crumb flooring has been laid throughout the centre and we have taken over the existing skatepark operation in the building. During February 2009 Creation opened an entire new room, approximately half the size of our existing operation, now offering over 100 lines of climbing.

The company has grown considerably since our opening day, and on the back of climbing centre we have launched our retail outlet and outdoor adventure companies, and have shares in various other businesses.

With the backing of several key players and two high street banks the group is set to grow even bigger through 2009/10 with some exciting and elaborate plans for The Creation Leisure Group. Watch this space....
